In this 98 page booklet, I have compiled my most popular resources on Romeo and Juliet from the last 10 years of teaching into one easy to print booklet. Complete lesson analysing Fred’s character in A Christmas Carol. Differentiated starter activity. Detailed annotation of 8 key Fred quotations with 4 detailed inferences for each quotation. The annotations are animated to appear one by one so you can talk them through. Students are then given a model paragraph and asked to use their notes to write the next paragraph(s). The plenary invites students to consider the strengths and weaknesses of Dickens’ characterisation and asks students to think about Fred’s one-dimensionality.

PowerPoint with differentiated Worksheets for 2/3 lessons analysing Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. Includes annotations for lower ability students. Also includes an additional creative writing lesson based on the poem with full resources.

A range of worksheets focusing on figurative language. Using the examples as a guide, students come up with an A to Z of similes, metaphors, alliteration, oxymoron, personification. Will work equally well with A Christmas Carol or Jekyll and Hyde - the two most popular texts. Effective at guiding students towards high quality responses. lso includes advice on how to create a thesis-style introduction on A Christmas Carol. ‘A thesis-style introduction that demonstrates your understanding of the question can be a really helpful way of starting your answer. It shows that you are ‘in charge’ of your essay and that you know what you think. It can provide a strong foundation for the rest of the essay. Keep referring back to the introduction to create a coherent response.’ AQA examiner’s report 2022 Creating a thesis-style introduction is a challenge for many students but is essential in helping students to reach levels 4-6 in the mark scheme. I have produced a simple 3 point structure to help students quickly generate a thesis statement in timed exam conditions. There is an example of the 3 point structure being used and then students attempt to imitate the structure for 4 other exam-style questions.

A detailed and comprehensive lesson looking at how violence is presented in Act 3 Scene 1 to prepare students for an assessment. Includes a range of planning sheets and a learning journey along with annotations of the scene on the powerpoint and a model response to help with follow up tasks after the assessment. Aimed at mid ability groups.

15 Conceptual Statements - one for each poem. Students must work out which poem each conceptual statement is referring to. Also contains summaries of each poem using the ‘because, but, so’ method from the writing revolution. The ‘because, but, so’ method is an excellent tool for teaching students to think analytically about each poem in the Power and Conflict anthology. This tool is powerful because it encourages students to expand their thinking with precision and detail. After studying each poem, I ask students to write a ‘because, but, so’ paragraph on it. This document collates ‘because, but, so’ paragraphs on all 15 poems as examples to assist students with revising the key ideas in each poem.

6 Romeo and Juliet sample exams on one A3 page for ease of photocopying. 6 years into the syllabus, I predict the extract will be from a less well-known part of the text so I am reflected that in my choice of extracts.

A worksheet for a 20 minute intervention session aimed at identifying word classes.

A revision booklet focusing on 20 short key extracts from Macbeth. I have picked the 20 extracts most likely to come up in an examination. For each extract, students revise the main ideas (A01), select 2 quotations to analyse (A02), and make a link to context (A03). Also includes questions on every single scene of the play (with answers) to help students recap the plot.

My students voted this as their most useful revision resource for A Christmas Carol. First ask students to annotate the top 50 quotations in the text and then give out the answer sheet to check their responses. For weaker students, there is a matching version where students match the 50 quotations to 50 brief explanations. Also contains more advanced notes on my top 20 quotations linked to A01, A02 and A03. For students wanting a comprehensive knowledge of the text there is also a 100 quotation version with meanings, methods and message briefly explained for all 100 quotations.

Ideal for lower ability students or students responding to an AQA exam question on A Christmas Carol for the first time, this writing frame guides students through the process of responding to a question about Scrooge’s lack of humanity. The sentence stems invite students to respond to outside of the extract as well as inside the extract and include opportunities to make links to context.

A great Friday period 5-type revision activity which uses the power of images to help students both explore and memorise 16 quotations. The worksheet features 16 quotes from Macbeth with 16 accompanying images. Students follow the differentiated success criteria and annotate the quotations for various shades of meaning. Includes answers which can be printed separately or to form double sided revision cards. When they have done this, I allow them to colour in the quotations.
